Join us in beautifying waterways and protecting wildlife for future generations

Our Restoration Initiatives

We beautify waterways, install gardens, and protect wildlife while tackling pollution and invasive species.

Invasive species management

Invasive water plants are prolific and a threat to the health of the river.

Pollution management

This includes the installation and maintenance of litter booms as well as manual clean ups.

We are committed to restoring native ecosystems through the revival and care of indigenous plants. By reintroducing ecologically vital flora, we aim to support biodiversity and foster resilience.

Indigenous plant restoration

Cape Clawless Otter, Western Leopard toad, frogs, bird species such African spoonbill, red-knobbed coot, reed cormorant, white breasted cormorant, grey heron, malachite kingfisher and giant kingfisher.

Community

An important aspect of this project is active community involvement. By engaging local residents, we aim to foster a strong sense of ownership and pride in our shared natural environment.

The restored river walkway will not only serve as a tranquil and picturesque outdoor space for all to enjoy, but will also become a valuable educational resource. Community members will have the opportunity to connect with nature firsthand, learning about local ecosystems, environmental stewardship, and the importance of conservation in a meaningful and accessible way.

Community engagement - garden

We have already started an indigenous, mainly fynbos garden, in what was unused land alongside the river. The plan is to further develop this garden and to make it a really beautiful space with help from members of the Orchard Village community.

Walkway and benches

When finished, our community area will include a fynbos garden, walkways, benches and picnic tables, with some other exciting creative ideas also in the pipeline.
