The City of Cape Town has allocated us support with a small team of casual labourers who will be coming in once or twice a week over the next couple of months.
We have also secured a budget which will allow us to purchase some indigenous plants. These are to be planted next to the Camargue bridge, where we have already cleared a section of reeds, including digging out the roots.
More plants will be installed at the confluence of the 3 streams in the park. The plan is to enlarge the confluence area, to rewild it as much as possible; to create a natural wetland/ pond area which can be enjoyed by the community.
Over the next few weeks, we will continue to prep for planting - which will take place roughly in a month's time justa fter the middle of May - you're all invited to assist with the planting.
We will also be doing some initial clearing of the river. On that note, there is also a team contracted to the city which are making their way down Westlake River on the Kirstenhof side, and should be here in the next 3 or so weeks.
A portable toilet has been arranged for the workers.
